Umar Khalid has approached the Delhi High Court for 15 days' interim bail, from May 22 to June 5, to attend his uncle's Chehlum ceremony and care for his mother undergoing surgery. A trial court had previously denied his request, deeming it not necessary. Khalid argues the trial court's assessment was incorrect.

Umar Khalid has been granted three days of interim bail by the Delhi High Court to be with his mother for her surgery. He will be released from June 1 to June 3, with strict conditions including staying within Delhi-NCR and only visiting the hospital. The court's decision came after a trial court rejected his temporary relief plea.

The Supreme Court on Friday chose not to comment on observations questioning its earlier bail denial to activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. While hearing bail pleas for other riot accused, the bench indicated it might grant interim bail, but will consider Delhi Police's plea for a larger bench review on UAPA bail norms.
