Much drama has been surrounding the selection of the head coach of the Indian cricket team ever since coach Anil Kumble stepped down from his position on June 20, 2017. Kumble quit his post after a widely-speculated feud with captain Virat Kohli, which marked a bitter end to his highly successful tenure.

This hyped fiasco finally came to an end almost two months, with cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri bagging the job on July 11, 2017.

Putting a rest to all speculations, the BCCI officially confirmed former all-rounder and team director Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Additionally, the board has also got in the former bowler Zaheer Khan to be the team's team's bowling consultant and ex captain Rahul Dravid would act as the batting consultant for overseas tours.
