San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is hopeful for a return to the field in November after receiving specialized treatment for his Achilles tendonitis in Germany. The star player, sidelined since the start of the 2024
NFL season, has been on the injured reserve list, and while there’s optimism surrounding his recovery, his absence has been keenly felt by the 49ers.

Christian McCaffrey’s Achilles injury has prevented him from participating in the first six weeks of the season, and he remains ineligible to return until after the 49ers' Week 6 game against the Seattle Seahawks. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it was reported that McCaffrey could be back "at least by early November." However, the team's fans might need to wait until Week 10 for his highly anticipated return.
The running back's recent trip to Germany played a crucial role in his treatment. He underwent a procedure similar to a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, which is expected to accelerate his recovery process.
Rapoport also noted that McCaffrey may soon resume running on hard ground, a promising sign for both the player and the team.
While McCaffrey’s injury has been frustrating, the fact that it is not expected to be season-ending, like some Achilles tears, has brought relief to the 49ers. However, his absence has contributed to a slow start for San Francisco, who are currently 1-2 in the standings. The team is undoubtedly missing their two-time All-Pro running back's dynamic presence on the field.
In McCaffrey’s absence, Jordan Mason has stepped up as the team's primary ball carrier. Mason has impressed during his expanded role, leading the league with 67 carries and accumulating 324 rushing yards through just three games. The 49ers have also used backup Isaac Guerendo, though his contributions have been limited.
As the 49ers face off against the New England Patriots, they will once again rely on Mason to carry the workload in the backfield. Despite McCaffrey's continued absence, the team remains focused on turning their season around, hoping their star player’s November return will provide the spark needed to propel them forward.
