Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon of ESPN are informed by sources that Mavericks big man Anthony Davis has ligament damage. Davis may miss "number of months," according to ESPN's Shams Charania, due to the injury to his left hand.

He ended his day with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in 35 minutes played after sustaining the injury during Thursday's close loss to the Utah Jazz. He did not play again. Charania said that Davis had a "real chance" of missing the NBA's February 5 trade deadline due to the possible necessity for surgery.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania on Friday, Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is expected to lose time due to ligament damage in his hand. Shams Charania wrote on X:

“Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has sustained ligament damage in his left hand, sources tell me and @BannedMacMahon. Depending on second opinion and if surgery is required, Davis could miss a number of months…”

Given that Davis was anticipated to be a top trade deadline target, this is a devastating blow for both Dallas and Davis. However, Davis might be out until the trade deadline on February 5th, depending on a second opinion and the potential necessity for surgery.




In the upcoming days, a schedule will probably become clearer, but Davis' fantasy managers should prepare for a protracted absence. Players like PJ Washington (ankle), Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson, and Caleb Martin will have plenty of opportunities to take advantage of his absence.

According to ESPN's pair, Davis is seeking a second opinion on his hand and may have to miss several months if surgery is determined to be the most effective way to cure the ailment.
