When Juan Soto joined hands with the New York Mets back in 2024 during the off-season, the expectations of the MLB world and his fans instantly skyrocketed, but his rocky start to the 2025 season went on to bring him under the scanner. From MLB critics to Mets fans, everyone took a dig at the Mets’ $765 million star, but amidst all the criticism and discussion, there is one person who is still very calm and confident about Soto’s current form.

Mets’ owner Steve Cohen’s take on Juan Soto’s slow start has silenced critics

With Juan Soto missing his spark on the field during the ongoing MLB season and the Mets tumbling down to the third position on the National League table, Steve Cohen remains cool about the performance of his club. Despite a slow start by the Dominican star, the New York Mets owner’s 5-word reaction sent out a strong message to the critics. During an appearance on the New York Post’s recent episode of The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman post-game interview, Cohen responded to the $765 million star’s slow start. He said-“I’m not worried about Juan.”
Apart from addressing Soto’s slow start, Steve Cohen also pointed out the subtle things the former Yankees star has done for the Mets during the ongoing MLB season. He even mentioned Pete Alonso. Cohen said-“The way that he works a count, making pitchers throw extra pitches, really matters.
Then he gets on base, and then Pete [Alonso] can drive him in. And so Pete’s seen better pitches.”Cohen further mentioned“It’s very subtle how that works, and you just can’t just look at it in a very narrow sense. And saying that, listen, I’m not worried about Juan. I mean, he is singularly focused on baseball; he’s a pure hitter, and let’s have this discussion at the end of the year.”Juan Soto has been a hotbed of discussion ever since the start of the 2025 MLB season due to his tumultuous start. It is quite understandable that the expectations from the Yankees star went on to jump high after he went on to sign a $765 million contract with the New York Mets for the next 15 seasons. This even brought him to the front page of MLB as Soto bagged one of the biggest deals in the history of major league, leaving behind Dodgers’ designated hitter Shohei Ohtani.
