Right then, that was an amazing first innings and we saw both teams dominating each other during different phases of the game. The Lankans have managed to put 344 on the board courtesy of centuries from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. Hasan Ali's 4-wicket haul helped Pakistan to put the pressure on the batters. One of the two centurions for Sri Lanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama is in for a chat. He says that he is really happy since it was his maiden ODI hundred. Credits Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis for the way they batted. Shares that his plan was to bat positively and give the strike to Mendis. Adds that it was a great partnership between them. Mentions that the wicket was good in the first few overs. Adds that the ball started gripping in the last few overs. Feels that once the ball gets old, taking the pace off will be a good option.
Pakistan had a very strong start to the innings by taking Kusal Perera's wicket off Hasan Ali's bowling. However, the bowlers couldn't maintain the pressure after that and allowed a few partnerships to be made by the Lankan batters. Shadab Khan stepped up and took a very crucial wicket of Pathum Nissanka. The bowlers were again dominated by the Lankans in the middle phases. Hasan Ali was the main attraction as he clinched the wickets of both centurions and gave crucial breakthroughs. After the dismissal of Dhananjaya de Silva, it was all about the bowling. Hasan Ali came to the rescue with a crucial 4-wicket haul along with Haris Rauf providing a strong end with his 2 wickets. A strong display at the end of the innings helped restrict the Lankans to 344 runs.
It's a very good score put on the board by Sri Lanka, it might be just enough to give a challenge to Pakistan to chase it down. At the start of the innings, Kusal Perera couldn't hold up to Hasan Ali's bowling, but after that, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis put pressure back on the bowlers which favored Sri Lanka and allowed the batters to be aggressive. Pathum Nissanka was sent back to the pavilion just as he was setting the tone of the game, but Kusal Mendis carried on and played an exceptional innings. Sadeera Samarawickrama supported him throughout the innings and kept the scoreboard going. Both, Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama reached their centuries and made sure that their team reached a total of 344.
