The day is dedicated to worship ancestors or forefathers. Devotees believe that worshipping ancestors, doing charity and performing various spiritual activities on this day bring peace, prosperity and spiritual growth in life so one must get engaged in these practices for spiritual merit. The day is considered highly auspicious for spiritual bath which means a large number of devotees perform Ganga Snan. Taking a plunge in Ganga river is believed to be meritorious and rewarding so one must follow that.
1. Before beginning puja rites, people get up early and take a bath.
2. In the puja room, light a diya with desi ghee in the name of ancestors'.
3. Get sattvik food ready and invite a priest or brahmin, who can perform pitru tarpan.
4. Give the priest or brahmin food, clothing, and dakshina.
6. Spiritual development is believed to be greatly aided by this day.
7. After completing pitru puja, you must chant different Vedic mantras devoted to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
8. Give food, clothing, and dakshina to those in need.
