Where dogs are worshiped

Parassinikkadavu can be said to be the only temple that not only allows dogs inside but also reveres them. Following the belief that Muthappan was also accompanied by dogs, you can even see dogs roaming around the temple. There are bronze statues of the dogs, too, for worship. Not just that, even the Nivedyam, the sanctified food, first goes to the canine here.

Every day, the folk art of Kerala, Theyyam, is being performed in the temple, and it is believed that Muthappan takes human incarnation through the Theyyam artist. During this act, the devotees can talk to Muthappan, the Theyyam performer, and seek solace or advice.
