According to the scriptures, Vaikasi Visakam is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated in South India. The day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Murugan. The day is purely dedicated to worship Lord Murugan and devotees offer their sincere prayers to appease him on this special day. In North India, Lord Murugan is called as Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is known as the chief commander of all the deities and warrior deity, who was born with the purpose of killing the demon Tarkasura.

Lord Kartikeya has six faces and he mounts on a peacock. He gives protection to all the devotees, who worship him with devotion and purity. He is a symbol of courage and fearlessness.
