Elephanta Caves, Maharashtra: Elephanta Caves on Elephanta Island in Maharashtra are a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has intrigued people for centuries now. These rock-cut caves are said to have been created between the 5th and 8th centuries. You’ll be shocked to see the caves here which are noted for their incredible sculptures of Hindu deities. There’s a Shiva statue which is 20 ft high. It still remains one of the mysterious archaeological wonders in India.

Ajanta Caves, Maharashtra

The Ajanta Caves are another UNESCO World Heritage Site in India which date from the 2nd century. These caves hold mysteries that archaeologists are still trying to solve! Carved into the side of a rock face, these caves are noted for their intricate Buddhist sculptures. The mystery surrounding the Ajanta Caves is about their abandonment for centuries now.
