From world’s only white giraffe to pink dolphin, places to spot these rare animals

Our world is full of surprises and some such surprises come in the form of pink dolphin, white giraffe and black tiger, among others. Nature hides some rare and mesmerising creatures which are waiting to be discovered and seen.

2/8

White Giraffe – Garissa County, Kenya

Garissa County in Kenya is the only place in the world known for a white giraffe. It was found in the Ishaqbini Hirola Sanctuary in Kenya. Its striking white appearance is due to a rare genetic condition called leucism, not albinism.

3/8

Black Tiger – Simlipal National Park, Odisha, India

Black tigers are incredibly rare. These have unique stripe patterns, a condition called pseudomelanism. They are mostly spotted in the dense forests of Simlipal National Park. These elusive big cats are one of India’s most mysterious wildlife marvels.

4/8

Pink Dolphin – Amazon River, South America

Pink Dolphin or the Amazon river dolphin are rare creatures with a distinctive pink colour. These can be spotted in the freshwater rivers of the Amazon Basin and are considered a symbol of good luck. Their colour deepens as they age.

5/8

Albino Elephant – Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa

A rare sight indeed! Albino elephants usually have a pale pink or light brown tint. A few sightings have been reported in Addo Elephant National Park. Their sensitive skin requires extra protection from the sun.

6/8

Purple Frog – Western Ghats, India

This is a unique amphibian that spends most of its life underground. It just comes out in the monsoon season. It is endemic to the Western Ghats and was discovered just two decades ago, can you imagine?

7/8

Glass Frog – Costa Rica

Glass frogs have translucent skin that reveals their internal organs, making them nature’s most unusual amphibians. They are best spotted in the cloud forests of Costa Rica. Their incredible camouflage helps them stay hidden from predators.

8/8

Okapi – Democratic Republic of Congo

The okapi looks like a cross between a zebra and a giraffe but is actually a close relative of the latter. Found only in the Ituri Rainforest, it is known as the "forest giraffe." It remained hidden from science until the early 20th century.
