Who is Maa Baglamukhi?

The name of a Goddess that you would most likely have heard before elections or a major political event is Maa Baglamukhi. She is the eighth goddess among the Das Mahavidyas, the ten fierce wisdom goddesses in Hinduism, and her name literally means ‘the one who restrains’. She is the Goddess who has the power and ability to control or silence one’s enemies, especially those who try to harm you through speech, lies, or legal entanglements.
Maa Baglamukhi is also famous as the goddess of ‘Stambhana’, someone who can make the enemy still and immobile.

The Dasa Mahavidyas

Maa Baglamukhi is a part of the Dasa Mahavidyas, the 10 Goddesses famous in Tantra Sadhana. It is believed that these ten forms emerged when Goddess Sati took ten different, powerful forms to stop Lord Shiva from leaving in a rage.
The Dasa Mahavidyas are - Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi, and Kamala.
And among the 10, Maa Baglamukhi’s worship and devotion to her helps people overcome obstacles, win debates, resolve long legal issues, defeat the enemy, and more. (Image: talesofsanatana/Instagram)

The temple sees a rush of influential figures and politicians, especially during election seasons or when facing crises, and they do not just offer prayers by bowing their heads in front of the Goddess, but stay for long, elaborate hawans, yagyas, jaaps, and more.
