Who was Pilot Baba?

Wing Commander Kapil Singh, who became famous with the name ‘Pilot Baba’ for his contributions to the IAF, was an Indian Air Force officer who turned to spirituality and monkhood. Pilot Baba’s career in the Indian Air Force was marked by bravery and dedication, but despite his success in the military, he had a crisis that eventually led him to give up his career in the IAF and move to the Himalayas for his spiritual calling.

Who was Ashwatthama

Another name that strikes the mind when someone talks about Pilot Baba is of Ashwatthama. Ashwatthama, the immortal who roams the Earth owing to Lord Krishna’s curse is said to have been seen by very few people, and Pilot Baba was one of them.
It is said that after the Kurukshetra war, Ashwatthama, in a fit of anger and rage, committed a grave sin. To avenge his father and the Kauravas he unleashed the Brahmastra which killed the unborn baby of Uttara.
Shri Krishna punished Ashwatthama for this heinous crime. He took the ruby from his forehead, which protected Ashwatthama, and cursed him to wander the Earth in eternal pain.

Pilot Baba’s move to the Himalayas

Pilot Baba's transition from an Air Force officer to a spiritual guru is rather simple and hints towards a simple awakening. It is said that even though he was celebrated in his ranks, he felt an inner restlessness and a pull towards spirituality that he could not ignore. This led him to leave behind his IAF career and he went to the Himalayas to find something higher, something more divine.
It is believed that in the Himalayas Pilot Baba met spiritual masters who showed him what was ahead of him. He started deep meditation and penance and meditation to become more aware of his purpose in life.

The time he saw Ashwatthama

One of the main reasons why Pilot Baba shot to fame and popularity was because the word got out that he met Ashwatthama, the immortal of Mahabharat.
It is said that during one of his meditative phases in the remote part of the Himalayas, he saw Ashwatthama who appeared to him not as a divine being, but as a human who stood tall, with a mark on his forehead, bearing the curse of immortality.

Pilot Baba and his Samadhis

Another very famous quality of Pilot Baba was his ability to enter into Samadhi, a state of deep meditation where the mind is said to leave the physical body and enters a higher state of consciousness. Pilot Baba was known to go into Samadhi for long periods, during which his body would slow down, and he would be in a state of near-death.
It is said that Pilot Baba undertook over 100 samadhis to deepen his meditation and bring himself closer to the true realisation of divine.

A final goodbye

Unfortunately, Pilot Baba breathed his last on August 20, 2024 and left the Earth realm, fulfilling his purpose of uniting with the divine.
