Hurtful things bosses say

We all know the struggle of dealing with a mean and obnoxious boss. Their hurtful comments can be really upsetting, especially when you are working day and night to boost your productivity. A mean boss is very toxic for a workplace environment and it can be very stressful to deal with one. Here are some of the things bosses say that suggest, THEY are the problem, not others!

2/6

“I didn’t ask for your opinion”

Good leadership is when you collectively include your employees in a discussion and ask for their opinions to evaluate and come to a final decision. And when you say this statement as a boss, you are refusing your employees the opportunity to voice their ideas.

3/6

“I was the one doing all the work at night”

You don’t need to make your employees feel pressurised to work at night. If you’re going the extra mile, congratulations, but your employees might not be up for extra work, at the expense of their non-working hours, free time or their health.

4/6

“Look at how he’s scoring more clients than you!”

Don’t create unhealthy competition between employees. Furthermore, don’t degrade your employee while making them visibly upset and jealous of another employee’s success. As a boss, you should congratulate them in a professional manner.

5/6

“Just get this work done. Don’t ask questions”

This is just plain rude. You’re asking your employee to get the work done, without knowing the purpose or goal; how are they supposed to do the work perfectly then? Attempting this attitude with your workforce is simply ignorant.

6/6

“You’re lucky to get a raise”

Don’t belittle your employee’s hard work by saying this. Portraying their promotion, raise or bonus as a lucky act is belittling or undervaluing their hard work and productivity.
