1/5

Avoid saying these things

Unknowingly, the things we suddenly blurt out can make us seem unprofessional, unreasonable and immature. If you continue to say things, without thinking twice, getting respect from your peers can get incredibly difficult. You should be informative, concise and talk to the point so that you can sound relevant and that people listen to you attentively. Here are some phrases that you should avoid, to stop sounding immature.

2/5

Turning serious meetings into comedy

When you turn a serious meeting into a comedy show, by blurting out jokes to impress or keep everyone entertained, it leaves a bad impression on everyone. Be smart, mature and be focused on what you’re saying.

3/5

Muttering words

Uttering, “umm…, you know…, like…” etc. makes you look like you aren’t at the top of your game. If you aren’t sure of what you need to say next, take a moment, pause and then speak up. Don’t use these kinds of filler words.

4/5

Words that don’t show clarity

Always speak with clarity. Don’t show the person in front of you that you’re unsure of what you’re about to say. Don’t confuse the person by saying, “kind of…, I guess…” etc. This makes you look like you can’t deliver the information with precision.

5/5

Words that show you’re indecisive

In the professional world, you must learn to make a decision, unless it’s necessary to consult your senior. Don’t throw away your authority by saying, “I am not sure…, I have to check with my boss…, I am a bit busy” etc. Either be decisive about your statements or avoid coming to such a point.
