Pros of changing your surname after marriage

It makes future paperwork for property related matters easier.

If you are looking at joint accounts, then it is easier if you have the same surname.

The debate on what surname your future kids will have gets omitted.

In connection to the point above, you will not have to keep explaining the reason why you retained your maiden name.

Cons

Biggest con is dropping the name that defined who you are today.

Another issue is if you do not like his maiden name. Seen that scene in “3 Idiots” when Kareena questions Aamir Khan’s Phunsuk Wangdoo as her last name?

When you get your surname changed, there is a lot of paperwork involved. All your documents will have to be changed including ID proofs, bank accounts etc. It is super exhausting so think hard!
