Did you have such an experience as well?

In India, arranged marriages are huge and people believe that this arrangement makes long-lasting marriages. Love comes later of course but then every couple has a different experience. While some take it as a blessing, many have a hard time. Here are some honest confessions of Indian men who were forced into arranged marriages.

Too many differences

“Mine was an arranged marriage, like most of the Indians. Before marriage, I spoke to her only a couple of times, because our marriage date was 3 months after we met formally and we were both busy with work and preparation for the big day. On our big night, there were 2 strangers in a room. I knew more about my watchman than my wife. We didn’t do anything on that night, since we were strangers and very tired of the long rituals from our marriage. A couple of months after marriage was suffocating for both of us. We tried to change for each other but it made it worse. there were a lot of differences between us.”

It was like the “Stranger” song by Diljit Dosanjh

“I was forced to marry a woman five years younger and put in the same room when I hardly knew anything about her. Eventually, we started talking and we both fell head over heels for each other. It was like the Stranger song by Diljit Dosanjh. We dated like new couples, sex was off the table for a few months because we both wanted to do it when our hearts were also ready. I was lucky that everything fell into place.”

It was the cause of my mental breakdown

“My arranged marriage nearly made me commit suicide had I not met my now wife. I was stuck in an arranged marriage for 3 years and it led to several mental breakdowns. I started seeing a therapist and got myself back together after a year-long consultation. My wife would harass me all the time for a bigger salary package and whined the entire day because she hated staying in a joint family. She had so many issues which are understandable but it was an arranged marriage so what else did she expect? Adjustments are synonymous with any marriage so arranged is no different. After my consultation, I filed for divorce and she pounced at the opportunity to walk out too. It was a horrible experience.”
