Yet, it seems that things are changing because more Indians are accepting extramarital relationships. These days, marriage in India is no longer seen as an eternal commitment – it's not uncommon for couples to divorce if they're unhappy. Gleeden, a women-made discreet dating app, partnered up with IPSOS to perform a thorough study to research how marriage, adultery, and other conventional socio-cultural norms are changing in India. A sample of 1,503 married Indians between the ages of 25 and 50 who live in 12 Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities made up the research's sample. According to the survey, 82% of respondents believe it is possible to be true to one person for the rest of one's life, even though 44% believe it is feasible to be in love with two people at once. It's interesting to note that 55% of respondents would like to have sex with someone other than their spouse, and 37% of individuals believe it is feasible to cheat on someone while still loving them.
Attention matters
The need for companionship, emotional support and physical intimacy is fundamental to one's mental health and well-being; hence, when one feels neglected or lacks the attention of their partner, it can be incredibly devastating and difficult to cope with. 33% of individuals according to the survey feel neglected in their relationship.
Tit for Tat
It's natural to feel betrayed when your partner is unfaithful, and seeking revenge is certainly an understandable urge. According to the survey, 23% of individuals believe in payback and get themselves involved in an extradyadic relationship.
Lack of needs
According to the survey, 32% of individuals are dealing with a lack of sexual satisfaction from their partner and this scenario leads to infidelity. Lack of communication both emotional and physical is the biggest hurdle to a successful relationship.
Sparks of new romance
Extramarital dating can be a tricky affair. It often comes with a multitude of complications, both emotional and practical. But sometimes, at least part of the reason for seeking out someone outside of your relationship is to feel the sparkles of new romance. 32% of individuals according to the survey are eager to feel the excitement and joy that comes with meeting someone new and enjoying the butterflies in their stomachs.
“I am still the best”
When it comes to extramarital dating, many people assume it is only about satisfying physical needs. However, there is more to it than that. Proving to yourself that you can still be attractive, wanted, and seductive can be a huge draw for some people. According to the survey 31% of individuals regardless of age or relationship status, still want to feel attractive and desirable. For some, engaging in an extramarital relationship can provide a much-needed boost of self-esteem, particularly if the ability to seduce is questioned.
