Bizarre pregnancy myths we all believed at one point

Pregnancy myths debunked

Pregnancy is an incredible journey filled with excitement, anticipation, and a touch of anxiety. As expectant parents, we often turn to friends, family, and the internet for advice and information. But beware, not all the wisdom out there is grounded in reality. As kids we used to believe that kissing a boy would make us pregnant, which turned out not to be the truth. Just like that, here are a few bizarre pregnancy myths that many of us have believed at some point.

2/11

The shape of your belly reveals the gender

Have you been told that if you are carrying high, it's a girl, and if you're carrying low, it's a boy? This myth has been around for ages, but it's just that, a myth. The way you carry your baby depends on various factors, such as your body shape and the baby's position, but it's not a reliable gender predictor.

3/11

Heartburn means your baby will have lots of hair

We all have heard about the discomfort of pregnancy-related heartburn. Some say that if you experience heartburn, your baby will be born with a full head of hair. While there might be some anecdotal evidence supporting this claim, scientific studies haven't found a solid link between heartburn and a hairy baby.

4/11

You cant have coffee during pregnancy

The myth that coffee is off-limits during pregnancy is a common misconception. While it's essential to limit caffeine intake, you don't have to give it all in. Moderation is key, and most experts agree that one or two cups of coffee per day are generally safe. Just be sure to consult your doctor to determine what's best for you.

5/11

You should avoid exercise completely

Some believe that pregnancy is a time to put your feet up and avoid physical activity at all costs. However, regular exercise is often beneficial during pregnancy, as it can help reduce discomfort, improve sleep, and maintain your overall well-being. Of course, any physical activity that might take a toll on you should be avoided completely.

6/11

The bigger the belly, the bigger the baby

It's easy to think that a massive baby bump means you are growing a giant baby, right? Not necessarily! The size of your belly can be influenced by your baby's position, your body's structure, and amniotic fluid levels. Most often, a large bump doesn't equate to a massive baby.

7/11

Eating for two

The idea of "eating for two" during pregnancy has led many moms-to-be to overindulge. In reality, you only need about 300-500 extra calories per day. Quality and nutrition are more important than quantity. Focus on a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and protein. Gaining too much weight during pregnancy can lead to complications, so it's best to eat sensibly.

8/11

First babies are always late

While it's true that first-time moms tend to carry their babies to full term, it's not an absolute rule. Babies have their schedules, and some might arrive earlier, right on time, or fashionably late.

9/11

Eclipses will lead to miscarriage

Eclipses are stunning celestial events that have captured human imagination for centuries. However, many cultures have associated eclipses with negative events, including miscarriages. But there's no scientific basis to this belief. Miscarriages occur for various reasons, and celestial events like eclipses aren't among them.

10/11

Sitting down too fast can snap your baby's neck

The idea that sitting down too quickly can harm your baby is both strange and unfounded. Your baby is well-protected in the amniotic sac, and the movements you make during your daily routine won't harm them. Pregnancy isn't a delicate state where every sudden movement poses a risk.

11/11

Drinking black coffee will darken the complexion of the kid

This myth is a curious one. Some believe that consuming black coffee during pregnancy can result in a darker complexion for the baby. However, a baby's skin tone is primarily determined by genetics, and your coffee preferences won't influence their complexion.
