Baby names inspired by colors

Baby names are funny. Each person has a tale of the way a name was selected. In some cases it is the name of a grandparent. Sometimes it’s a movie character. In some cases, it takes parents months to make a decision and even then they refer the child by a nickname that is not related to the real name. Literally, when you listen to naming conversation within families you will find people always seeking the same thing. A name that is not too common. Not too strange. Easy to say. Easy to spell. Sounds nice when you call the child loudly. Looks decent when written on paper. That’s actually a lot of pressure for one small name. In recent years, people have started looking at names in unexpected places. Not just mythology, not just old family names. Nature, cities, books, seasons, and colours. Colour names are interesting because they already feel familiar. Everybody is familiar with the word, but does not instantly consider it a name. This is what makes it new and familiar at the same time.

2/8

Amber

Amber is a warm golden colour. The kind of colour you see when sunlight passes through old glass or certain stones. The name has a very warm sound when you say it. Not very sharp. Not very heavy. Just soft and easy. Many parents like names like Amber because they sound friendly. It is also a name that can be used by all ages. You may think of a little child called Amber, and you may think of an adult called Amber. That balance is important when people choose names now.

3/8

Jade

Jade is carved out of a green stone that has been used in jewellery and carvings a very long time and particularly in East Asia. Its name is extremely short, only one syllable, which is what most parents like today. Short names are easy everywhere; school, forms, emails, introductions. You don’t have to repeat the spelling five times. Jade sounds simple but still feels like a proper name, not a nickname.

4/8

Hazel

Hazel is a colour and also the name of a tree. Many people know the word because of “hazel eyes,” that brown-green colour that changes in different light. The name Hazel has a very quiet feel. Not flashy. Not loud. Just simple. Names like Hazel are becoming popular because people want nature-related names but not always flower names like Lily or Rose. Hazel feels different but still familiar.

5/8

Sienna

Sienna is a reddish-brown colour that is earthy and was originally made in Italy using clay. It’s also the name of a place. When you say the name Sienna is a smooth sounding name. There are names that are simply nice to say, and this one of them. Many parents actually test names like this ; they say the name loudly, softly, with the surname, and see how it sounds.

6/8

Violet

Violet is both a colour and a flower. This is one of those names that existed long ago, disappeared for some time, and then came back again. Many old names are coming back now because parents don’t want very modern-sounding names but also don’t want very old-fashioned names. Violet sits somewhere in the middle.

7/8

Scarlett

Scarlett comes from a deep red colour. It’s a strong name. Some names sound soft, some sound strong. Scarlett definitely sounds strong. Many people started liking this name because of movies and books, but it stayed popular because it is memorable. When you hear the name once, you remember it.

8/8

Indigo

Indigo is a deep blue colour. This is a slightly unusual name, and that is exactly why some parents like it. Many parents today are trying to find names that are different but not difficult. Indigo sounds different, but everyone still knows the word, so it doesn’t feel completely strange.
