A new look

Spring will be soon here, it is the time when everything looks fresh and new. The chilly winter is at its end, and it is the best time to give your home a much-needed uplift. Your home is your safe space, and at times changing the décor affects the surroundings positively.
Changing your living space needs thoughtful consideration. An understanding of the layout, personal preferences, window placement, and aesthetics is needed. Also, any change should keep in mind the functionality and enhance the guest experience. Sangeeta Vasishta, Founder of 'Revivehome' shared a few tips to give your living room a new look.

2/6

Upholstery

The furniture upholstery is one of the key decisions while furnishing the living room. Right from the colour palette to texture, pattern, and material all needed to be well thought out. That silk velvet might look very attractive and lend the room elegance and grace, but it might be a nightmare to maintain with kids and pets. Thus the functionality aspect of the upholstery must be considered before shortlisting any of the products. The furniture that doesn’t see much traffic will be relatively safe from the regular wear and tear.

Wall Art/Décor

Walls are often the most underutilised of the spaces, using right wall décor items can lift the wall while giving new life to the room. One can opt for frames, mirrors, wall plates, and corbels, to lend it a new look. The wooden colourful cow heads or wooden plates, depicting different deities, will give an interesting twist to the common surface.

Furniture

Replace the normal side table with antique look carved pillars. They are not simple pillars but are architectural remnants that not only showcase the craftsmanship but also narrate a story. There are many quirky furniture available that will make the room more lively and interesting. But do look at the comfort factor before picking up any offbeat pieces.

Cushions

To add more colour to the place add cushions to the whole décor, they are present in various fabrics like silk, velvet, Tibetian wool, cotton, linen, etc. Cushions made from Banarsi Sarees, often have a lustrous sheen and intricate designs that represent elegance and tradition. The bright-coloured cushions not only make the room look more elegant but also light it up.

Artefacts

Artefacts can breathe life into a place, by highlighting a corner, or other unique aspect of the room. They can reveal a theme and all the pieces are chosen accordingly or they can showcase the randomness or eccentricity of the owner. The artefacts can also evoke emotions, ideally, the home décor pieces should showcase the interest and personality of the homeowner. The vintage artefacts often act as good conversation openers on the history or significance of the piece. The pieces made from natural elements, invoke a feeling of comfort. While replacing the old artefacts with new, try to be more experimental, and give your room an eclectic appearance.
