Beware! Eating these 5 foods can trigger joint pain

It goes as per the adage that we are what we eat. The growing awareness about eating right and clean has already changed our eating habits, however, a certain type of foods can be responsible for certain health ailments. One of the most common diseases that get triggered by choosing wrong types of food is joint pain. Researchers have shown that eating a few culprit foods day in and day out can flare-up the cause of pain in your joints.

Tomatoes

TOMATOES: Though tomatoes are believed to be anti-inflammatory, new researches have proved that eating tomatoes can trigger joint pain. A study was conducted on people who were suffering from gout. Twenty per cent of people reported tomatoes as a joint-pain trigger. Researchers also analysed people who did not have gout. They found out that eating tomatoes increased the levels of uric acid found in their blood and high uric acid is the major underlying cause of gout.

Sugary and refined carbs

SUGARY AND REFINED CARBS: Eating refined and high amounts of sugar can also be responsible for inflammation and joint pain. These food items increase the risk of diabetes and heart diseases and also trigger the release of inflammatory ‘messengers’ called cytokines.

Dairy products

DAIRY PRODUCTS: Due to the type of protein dairy products contain, they can also increase the chances of inflammation and joint pain. This type of protein can irritate the tissue around the joints and can trigger pain.

Reduce consuming AGEs

REDUCE CONSUMING AGEs: AGEs are referred to as an advanced glycation end product, which is a toxin that appears when foods are heated, grilled, fried, or pasteurized. AGEs are known to damage essential proteins in the body, which in turn, triggers pain in your joints.

Alcohol and tobacco

ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO: Alcohol and tobacco can lead to a number of health issues, which also include joint pain. Health experts say that smokers are at a greater risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis and those who consume alcohol are susceptible to develop gout.
