COVID infection: Signs you have a weak immune system

One should always be aware of the signs of a weak immune system

A weak immune system is like a passive invitation for germs to invade our body. The body's sole defence mechanism, the immune system, always remains alert against foreign attack. It memorises the pathogen and protects the body from future attacks. Usually this memory is naturally induced after the body is exposed to the pathogen or else the immune system's memory is artificially induced with the help of vaccines.

A weak immune system puts a body through the infections caused by a number of germs and pathogens. It provides a breeding ground to all the germs to multiply and grow. One should always be aware of the signs of a weak immune system and keep the body prepared against pathogen attacks.

2/8

Constant irritability

Only a healthy body will have a calm mind. When you are not well it will definitely show up on your mental well being. Apart from this, there may be certain episodes of irritability which may be the consequence of a pathogenic infection whose symptoms may not be showing on the outside. Hence if you are experiencing constant irritations and mental exhaustion consult a doctor or else do a self checkup; keep records of common infections occurring in your body.

3/8

Feeling lethargic

This is another serious sign of a weak immune system. Since your body is always in constant fight against foreign attacks, the reactions inside the body ought to hamper your energy level. The immune system's reaction against the pathogens consumes the body's energy and it is because of that despite regular sleep you feel tired.

4/8

Wounds heal slowly

Have you ever wondered why that cut is taking forever to heal? Or why that burn which you had a week before is still not healing? It is because your immunity is weak because of which the injured skin is unable to regenerate and heal. The healing process of a body depends on the immune system; the stronger the immunity, the quicker is the body's response towards healing.

5/8

Prone to common cold

It is normal for adults to catch common cold 2-3 times a year, but if you are someone who catches cold more than that, it is time you should watch your immune system. People with weak immune systems catch colds easily and frequently. These people tend to get sick very easily. For example after completing a big project or following an emotional situation they get sick.

6/8

Cold sores and shingles

Have you noticed having cold sores more often than before? This can be the result of an infection. If it is happening regularly, or if it is unable to heal itself, you should know your immune system needs to be attended to.

7/8

COVID and immune response

As per the data obtained from WHO reports, most of the people who contracted the novel coronavirus in 2020 developed antibodies 1-3 weeks after the symptoms started to show. "Patients who have had more severe disease appear to have higher levels of

important neutralizing antibodies. Patients who had mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 have low levels of neutralizing antibodies (or even undetectable levels). In these persons it is possible the innate immune response and the T cell response cleared the virus," the report says.

Usually a person who has been recovered from a viral infection is protected against another new infection if there are sufficient antibodies. However, changes in the virus sequence can make the immunity less effective.

So far, 5 strains of coronavirus have been placed in the variants of concern category. A number of recombinant strains have also come to the fore.

8/8

What should you do?

While the first and foremost step is to consult a doctor, the second step will be to change your lifestyle, especially diet. Organic seasonal foods will boost the immunity of the body like no one else, not even the supplements. Try to eat more vitamin enriched foods, foods loaded with antioxidants and those which have been organically grown.
