How can unvaccinated individuals stay safe?

The novel coronavirus has impacted the lives of millions. Amidst the chaos, government and health officials have stressed on the importance of vaccination and introduced different means and methods to facilitate vaccination drives. But while people have begun to understand the importance of getting their COVID shots, there are many who are either still not eligible for the jabs or are hesitant to take it. In light of such circumstances, it is extremely crucial that you continue to take precautionary measures to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

New emerging COVID variants are a source of great concern

Besides the impact of the pandemic on the physical and mental well being of the people, new variants have posed greater risk to lives. Studies suggest that while even those who are fully or partially vaccinated are susceptible to the new COVID strains, including the Delta variant, there is no way unvaccinated individuals can escape the implications of new emerging variants.

How can you protect yourself if you're still not vaccinated against COVID-19?

The first thing to bear in mind is that SARs-COV-2 virus does not spare anyone. Whether you're young or old or are fit and healthy, COVID-19 can impact you in various ways. That said, vaccinations are the need of the hour and if you've still not received your vaccine jab, it is important that you get it now.

However, for those of you, who are not eligible for COVID vaccines i.e. people below the age of 18 or those with chronic illnesses, here are few ways you can stay safe amid variant concerns.

4/7

Double mask at all times, especially when you're at crowded places

Unvaccinated people need to be extremely careful in the current times. Given the havoc wreaked by the second wave, it is only proper to stick to COVID-appropriate behaviours.

Avoid visiting outdoors unless extremely necessary. However, if you do visit crowded places, wear your masks properly and double mask if you have to. This will give you an extra layer of protection.

5/7

Social distancing is key

Practicing social distance reduces your risk of disease contraction. It also contains the spread of the virus to other people. If you're someone who is unvaccinated or know someone who is yet to receive their COVID vaccine, social distancing can play a vital role in keeping you and your loved ones safe.

6/7

Check people who are not taking proper COVID measures

Given that several states have lifted their border restrictions and many have almost forgotten the implications of the second wave, it is important that you respond politely and efficiently to anyone who has stopped following COVID guidelines. To some, it may become very discomforting, but it is an important step to keep everyone safe.

7/7

If you fall under the eligibility criteria, get yourself vaccinated ASAP

While people who are still not eligible for the vaccine have no choice but to continue taking care of themselves, those who are eligible but vaccine hesitant, should get their facts right and receive their vaccine doses as soon as possible. In light of the new COVID variants, vaccination is the only way you can protect yourself from serious infection.
