Times when Urfi Javed felt like giving up

'Bigg Boss OTT' famed Urfi Javed, who is well-known for her experimental sartorial choices, has opened up about the effect of constant bullying and trolling on her mental health. In a now-deleted Instagram Story, Urfi expressed that the hate makes her feel like giving up.

She wrote, “The constant bullying, trolling sometimes makes me go crazy. I cry, I cry a lot but I guess life goes on. You just gotta do you, those who don’t understand you shouldn’t even matter! Usually I’m ok but today is a very rare day where I feel like giving up .It does get me at times! The hate, the abuses, the trolls, the bullying, rape threats, death threats, what not.”

While most of us imagine the fame of being a celebrity will bring us happiness, there is a flip side to it. Being highly visible in the media can take a tremendous toll on one’s psychological functioning.

2/5

Being subjected to hyper-criticism

Celebrities are under constant public-eye and are subject to all kinds of opinions from audiences, fans, media and other celebrities as well. This attention and public criticism has also increased due to social media.

Reading demeaning, rude, nasty, insulting, and derogatory comments about one's own self on a daily basis cannot be easy for anyone.

3/5

Lost sense of self

As mentioned, hate and constant criticism from people can be draining and emotionally challenging. This mental pressure can hinder one’s confidence and sense of fulfillment. Afterall, handling endless stress on a daily basis can be difficult for anyone, whether famous or not. This can also cause the celebrity to make choices that no longer reflect their true self, compromising their sense of identity.

4/5

Dealing with rumours and false perception

Many celebrities are stereotyped with tags which can lead to rumours and fans may develop a false or one-dimensional perception of the celebrity. If influenced by what people see them for, a celebrity may lose track of the multi-faceted aspects of their own personality. While they may try to openly address their fans to clear the air with rumours, there is no guarantee of how people will react or if the rumours would truly be put to rest.

No privacy

As a celebrity, it is commonplace to have people screening you at your most private moments. Everything celebrities do is out there for the world to see, discuss, and mock. This is not something that everyone can get used to. While some celebrities adjust with time and even joy being in the public spotlight, some may have periods of difficulty in dealing with the attention, especially if it is something negative or controversial.
