5 Yoga poses to improve fertility

All over the world, millions of women suffer from infertility or are unable to conceive for years, even though they are otherwise healthy. While sometimes infertility is irreversible and not treatable with my medicines as well, in other cases, you can do a couple of things to improve fertility. Yoga is a natural way to increase your fertility, and some asanas, when performed correctly, and consistently can help you conceive naturally. Here are 5 such asanas...

Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana)

Bound Angle Pose, also known as the Butterfly Pose, opens up the hips, and increases blood flow to the pelvic area. Sit on the floor with your legs bent, bringing the soles of your feet together. Drop your knees drop gently toward the floor. This position stretches the inner thighs and groin, and improves circulation to reproductive organs like the uterus and ovaries. This asana calms the nervous system, thus improving hormonal balance and fertility.

3/6

Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)

This pose strengthens the lower back and stimulates the thyroid gland, which plays a crucial role in regulating hormones. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Slowly lift your hips toward the ceiling, pressing your feet and arms into the ground. This pose opens up the chest and pelvis, improving blood circulation to the reproductive organs. The stretch also helps lower your stress and anxiety, which can negatively affect fertility. Bridge pose activates the thyroid gland, and helps with hormone production and balance.

4/6

Reclining Bound Angle Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana)

Reclining Bound Angle Pose is a relaxing posture that helps reduce stress and promote circulation in the pelvic area. Lie on your back and bring the soles of your feet together, letting your knees fall open to the sides. If you find that difficult to hold, use cushions to rest your feet. This pose gently opens the hips and allows the pelvic muscles to relax deeply. This pose calms the nervous system, and also improves blood flow to the uterus and ovaries.

5/6

Child’s Pose (Balasana)

Child’s Pose, as the name suggests is a relaxing posture that calms the mind and relieves tension in the lower back and hips. Kneel on the floor, sit back on your heels, and stretch your arms forward while lowering your forehead to the ground. Promoting deep breathing and relaxation, this asana lowers stress hormones. Child’s Pose gently stretches the pelvic muscles and improves circulation in the reproductive organs. It also helps release emotional stress, which can negatively impact fertility.

6/6

Legs Up the Wall Pose (Viparita Karani)

Legs Up the Wall Pose is a gentle inversion that improves circulation and reduces stress. Lie on your back close to a wall and extend your legs straight up, resting them against the wall. This position promotes blood flow back toward the heart and pelvic area without overtly straining the body. It helps reduce swelling in the legs and relaxes the nervous system, which can improve hormone balance and fertility. This pose also promotes lymphatic drainage, helping the body remove toxins and reduce inflammation.
