It is often said that one should be creative while inventing ideas, but also be disciplined while implementing them. But, there have been instances where brands created a gap between the concept and its implementation and that gave birth to controversies. ​Jack in the Box and #MeToo Movement

The fast-food chain released an ad in August 2018 that talked about #MeToo movement. The 55-second video featured employees praising said bowls (sexual innuendo) and later showed mascot Jack failing to understand why his language made many uncomfortable, “People love my bowls,” he said in protest. The ad post was criticised and later the company and agency had to release a statement clarifying that the ad doesn't diminish any movement and the ad is in good taste. (Image: Facebook)

​Burger King Russia and World Cup

During the World Cup 2018, which was held in Russia, Burger King released an ad promising a lifetime supply of Whoppers to women who got impregnated by any of the professional athletes. The ad was criticised and Burger King had to later apologise for the Russian promotion of the brand. (Image: Facebook)

​McDonald's and National Tragedies

The brand was accused of profiting off disaster, after airing its "Carry On" commercial during the 2015 Golden Globes. The ad featured global tragedies like 9/11, the Boston Marathon bombing and the explosion of the Columbia space shuttle as a way to hawk burgers. The ad was considered very distasteful by consumers. ​Carl's Jr. and Donald Trump's Border Wall

The brand made an ad campaign in 2017 using Donald Trump's controversial border wall as a way to sell Tex-Mex burgers. The ad featured a volleyball game over the wall between the competing Tex and Mex sides, and there were many instances of sexism in the campaign that were considered controversial.

​Pot Noodles and Prostitutes
