Types of iced tea to try this summer and how to make them at home

There’s something about a tall glass of iced tea on a hot day that just feels right. It’s light, refreshing, and easy to change up depending on what you like—fruity, herby, tangy, or even floral. You can make it at home with basic ingredients and skip the extra-sweet bottled versions. Whether you’re having it alone or serving it to friends, iced tea is that perfect in-between drink that keeps you cool without feeling heavy. Scroll down for ideas to get started.

2/6

Classic lemon iced tea

Start by making some black tea and letting it cool. Then squeeze in some lemon juice, add a bit of honey or jaggery, and throw in a few ice cubes. That’s it. It’s tangy, refreshing, and just right for a hot day. Helps with digestion too, and gives you a little antioxidant push. Make a big jug and keep it in the fridge—you’ll keep reaching for it.

3/6

Mint and tulsi iced tea

If you’re in the mood for something that chills you out but still gives a little energy, just boil some water with fresh mint and tulsi leaves. Toss in a green tea bag and let it sit for a few minutes. Then strain it, let it cool, and pop it in the fridge. It tastes light, a bit herby, and really calming. Tulsi’s good for your immunity, and mint helps cool you down. Want a bit of a zing? Just add some lime.

4/6

Peach ginger iced tea

Brew your favourite black or green tea and let it cool. In a pan, simmer sliced peaches with grated ginger and a splash of water till soft. Blend and strain the mixture, then stir it into the tea. Chill and serve with lots of ice and a few peach slices on top. This one’s slightly sweet, warming, and good for the gut, thanks to the ginger. It also feels a bit fancy, in a good way.

5/6

Hibiscus rose iced tea

Steep dried hibiscus petals and a few dried rose petals in hot water, then let it cool completely. Strain, add a little raw honey or date syrup, and serve chilled with ice and a squeeze of lemon. This version is naturally tangy, beautifully pink, and rich in antioxidants. It’s also caffeine-free and perfect for winding down in the evening.

6/6

Spiced chai cold brew

If you’re a masala chai fan but don’t want anything hot, try this. Add crushed cardamom, cinnamon, and a clove or two to black tea, then cold brew it in the fridge overnight. Strain and serve over ice with a touch of jaggery or palm sugar. It’s bold, slightly spicy, and surprisingly refreshing.
