What is the right time to eat nuts?

From breakfast to dinner, we consume nuts in many forms. For some, it is a morning must-have after soaking overnight, and for some, nuts come in the form of a smoothie with seasonal fruits, and then there are people who add nuts to their curries for texture and taste. After all, they are one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can add to your daily diet, offering a powerful mix of healthy fats, protein, fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Regularly eating nuts supports heart health by improving cholesterol levels and reducing inflammation, thanks to their rich omega-3 and monounsaturated fats. Their slow-digesting fiber keeps you fuller for longer, stabilizes blood sugar, and promotes smooth digestion as well. But did you know that there is a specific time for every type of nut to be consumed? Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a video on Instagram, explaining the best time to eat nuts for gut health, hormonal balance, and overall well-being, all backed by science. Almonds


In his reel, Dr Saurabh suggests eating almonds in the morning because vitamin E and magnesium support blood sugar control and brain function.
How to eat: One can eat them after soaking overnight and removing the peel, or they can be added to smoothies or even salads.

Walnuts


As per Dr Saurabh, walnuts in the evening work better, because omega-3s and melatonin found in these nuts promote brain health and better sleep.
How to eat: In the evening, one can eat them in the form of kebabs or tikkis. They also taste good in soups and warm salads.

Pistachios


He suggests eating pistachios in the afternoon because protein and fiber stabilize energy and curb cravings.
How to eat: During the afternoon, one can simply roast them and add a pinch of salt and pepper and enjoy as a snack. They can also be paired with a cup of coffee as munchy.

Cashews


It is best to eat cashews with lunch because zinc and iron found in cashews help support immunity and energy metabolism, states Dr. Saurabh.
How to eat: After lunch, they can be enjoyed roasted with a hint of salt and pepper.

Pecan nuts


He suggests eating pecan nuts with dessert because polyphenols in these nuts help lower LDL cholesterol and reduce oxidative stress.
How to eat: They can be consumed in the form of pie or mousse, or one can also use them as garnish for ice cream or pudding.

Pine nuts


He recommends eating pine nuts mid-morning because pinolenic acid found in pine nuts can suppress appetite and support fat metabolism.
How to eat: During mid-morning hours, they are best consumed in roasted form on top of salads, as they add a nice crunch and texture to the salad. You can also add them on top of soup.

Peanuts

As per Dr Saurabh, peanuts work better as a snack anytime because resveratrol and niacin compounds found in them support heart and brain health.
How to consume: They can be converted into salad with onions, tomatoes, lemon, salt, pepper, and green chilli.
