Obesity myths debunked

There is not a single woman, who has not gone through fat-shaming! It’s a word millennial use for shaming every other person who has gained weight. Over the years, the obesity rate has risen tremendously. People affected with this disease are advised to binge less on high carbohydrate foods and those high in sugar, as it tends to increase the weight which can cause obesity. We are surrounded by so much literature about obesity that one tends to get confused about what is the reality and what is a myth. Here in this article, we will debunk some of the common obesity myths.

2/6

Myth 1: Weight loss can kill obesity

The reality in this myth is that weight loss does play an important role in overcoming the issue of obesity. However, it can take a toll on the complete well-being of a person. And obesity can come back again, once the person gives up his diet and exercise. Hence it is important to go for a consistent and balanced weight loss regime that one can follow throughout one’s life.

Myth 2: The root cause of obesity is poor lifestyle

The fact about this myth is that obesity is caused by several factors. Lifestyle cannot be always blamed for this disease. It is called a lifestyle disease as most of the factors are lifestyle-related like sleeping pattern, less physical activity, genetics, hormones, and medications. So, it’s completely wrong to mark poor lifestyle as the only cause of obesity.

Myth 3: Binging on fruits and green veggies to overcome obesity

Just eating fruits and veggies may not promote weight loss. It is important to follow a balanced diet rich in protein and not too high in carbs.

Myth 4: Quick weight loss may result in weight gain later on

If you are one of those who have heard that don’t lose weight quickly as you can put it back soon, don’t believe in this theory from the next time. The rate of reducing weight completely depends on your metabolism rate. If you have a good metabolism, you will reduce the weight faster and will not put it back later anytime in your life.

Myth 5: Sex can burn 300 Kcals per person

Last, but not the least, it has been said several times that an act of sex can burn 300 Kcals and so the more you indulge in it, the faster you will reduce weight. It’s a completely false statement which someone might have just said it for fun. In reality, on an average, you lose 1/20th of 300 kcals when you indulge in the act.
