Saffron Kheer for Dhanteras

Dhanteras is the first day of 5-day long Diwali celebrations and thus people finish off with their cleaning and decorations. This is a day of wealth on which people buy gold and silver along with steel. Also, it is on this day that people start preparing all the sweet dishes for offering to Goddess Lakshmi as part of the puja in the evening. It is said that on Dhanteras, one should offer yellow colour to Goddess Lakshmi in order to please her. Thus, one should make Saffron Kheer on this day to please as Maa Lakshmi loves Kheer. If not Kheer, one can make Boondi Ke Laddoo as well to please the goddess.

Gulgule for Narak Chaturdashi

On this day, ancient Indians used to make Gulgule for pleasing Mahakali or Shakti as the demon Narakasura was killed by Goddess Kali on this day. It is the only reason why this day is worshipped as Narak Chaturdashi.

Besan Laddoo for Diwali

Annakoot for Govardhan Puja

The fourth day of the Diwali celebration is known as Govardhan Puja, which is known to be the day on which Lord Krishna defeated Lord Indra. He saved the people of his village from the wrath of Lord Indra and held the Govardhan Parvat in his one hand. Thus, to pay respects to Lord Krishna, a mixed vegetable called Annakutta, is later offered to Lord Krishna and then enjoyed by the family members. This dish is made with as many veggies as possible.
