Green Tea

Keeping fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not just an essential requirement for the body, but also a trend these days. To be in shape, people seem to be trying almost everything under the sun . One such example is having endless number of green tea cups to keep away those extra kilos. The warm, soothing green tea serves as a guilt-free option for all tea lovers and is known to provide several health benefits. Green tea has been proved effective in aiding weight loss, boosting metabolism, easing digestion and improving heart health. There is no doubt that green tea has many health benefits and is a much healthier option compared to other tea variants, but the soothing tea has found to have some potential side effects. While green tea is known to give relief from other allergies, there are a few cases reported wherein people have been found to be allergic to green tea itself. However it is not that common, but if you consume more than 2-3 cups of green tea on a daily basis then you must look out for signs like headache, upset stomach and inability to sleep as they may be a side effect of having this tea. Though, only a certified physician can tell whether you are truly allergic or not but given here are a few symptoms that you can look out for to determine if drinking green tea is actually as beneficial for you as it is for other people.

2/7

Headache

If you feel heaviness or dizziness in the head shortly after the consumption of green tea, then it might be pointing towards a problem. A high intake of green tea has been linked to causing headaches that range from mild to severe in intensity. Green tea also has a fair amount of caffeine in it and so it is possible that the symptoms are caused by that, but nonetheless, if the symptoms prevail you must seek medical help.

3/7

Sleeplessness

Consuming green tea hypers the nervous system and can lead to the sleep patterns going haywire. This happens moreso if you consume the tea late at night. People who drink green tea have also reported feeling shakiness and jitters while sleeping or resting.

4/7

Upset Stomach

The most common side effect of having green tea is an upset stomach that may turn into constipation. Some people suffer from stomach ache as soon as they consume a cup of green tea. Green tea is a stimulant of gastric acid and can cause acidity, burning sensation in the stomach, nausea and even lead to vomiting and hamper digestion.

5/7

Iron Deficiency

There is a common practice of consuming green tea right after meals. While it may feel good to do so, it may silently lead to potential iron deficiency in the body. Due to the presence of tannins in green tea, even if you consume a good amount of iron in your diet, immediately drinking green tea after the meal can affect the absorption of iron from the food.

6/7

Caffeine Presence

No matter how saintly, green tea is, after all, a variant of tea, and thus has a considerate amount of caffeine in it. The presence of caffeine is the reason behind many side effects of the tea. The more green tea you drink the more caffeine you consume. The amount of caffeine presence differs from each type and each brand of green tea but it may lead to nervousness, anxiety, irritability and other problems that you would not experience otherwise.

7/7

Skin Allergies

It is possible that green tea eases your allergies and provides relief but for some people, it can actually cause irritation on the skin. Immediately after drinking green tea, it is possible that skin develops a rash, swelling, redness and becomes itchy. It is more likely to happen if you have hypersensitive skin.

It is very easy to get used to the taste of green tea and before you know it becomes a habit and in extreme cases addiction. It is best to squeeze one or two drops of lemon in your green tea to reduce the side effects and of course, be mindful of the quantity in which you consume it. Now that the possible side effects are known to you it is advisable to limit the intake of green tea to maximum 2-3 cups a day. Be cautious of the signs your body is showing you and if you find any abnormality you must see a doctor.
