How to help prevent heat stroke

The season of scorching heat and rising temperatures is here and a change of season calls for a change in routine, diet, and workout regimen. One of the main problems faced by people in this season is heat stroke. Heat stroke usually occurs when the body's water and salt supplies deplete. It is a major health hazard and can cause an upset stomach, vomiting, excessive headache and fever. Also, exposure to heat can make the body more vulnerable to different types of diseases. Here are some easy ways to keep yourself healthy this summer and avoid the deadly sunstroke.

2/9

Heat stroke symptoms

- Headaches

- Dizziness

- Muscle cramps or weakness

- Rapid, shallow breathing

- Flushed skin

- Lack of sweat despite the heat

- Nausea and vomiting

- Racing heartbeat

- Inability to walk

- Seizures

- Unconsciousness

- Dehyration

3/9

Stay hydrated

Drink at least about two litres of liquids per day. Water, fruit juices, coconut water or lemonade should top your list. Sweltering summer heat can cause dehydration which can lead to electrolyte loss leaving you lethargic, nauseous, exhausted and can even cause diarrhea.

4/9

Eat smaller meals

Consuming large meals, especially foods loaded with carbs, fat and protein give rise to a lot of heat in the body. Keep your meals lighter and smaller with refreshing fruits and vegetables and add a glass of buttermilk to keep energy levels stable and your appetite under control.

5/9

Keep an onion in your pocket

Sounds bizzare? When onions are kept in the pocket, these absorb the body heat and balance the body temperature which in turn helps in protecting from scorching heat and hot winds during summers.

6/9

Eat onions

Onions are the most effective way to beat the summer heat. Onions, especially red ones, contain a chemical called quercetin, which is known to have anti-histamine effect. It soothes our body and protects you from sun stroke.

7/9

Avoid excess alcohol

Alcohol depletes your body of fluids through urination because it is diuretic in nature. Try to reduce the amount of your favourite drinks, especially during hot weather and replace it with water or lemonades.

8/9

Avoid spices

Adding too much spices in summer season can have some adverse effects on our body as it can cause inflammation in the stomach lining leading to stomach disorders. Spices like chilli, ginger, nutmegs, pepper, cumin and cinnamon can heat up the body and cause discomfort.

9/9

Drink aam panna

This amazing summer drink is an intrinsic part of summer with a host of health benefits. The assortment of spices in this drink is immensely beneficial for digestive system. This summer quencher prevent loss of sodium chloride and iron during due to excessive sweating. Have a glass of aam panna before moving out in the sun.
