Importance of carrot juice and its benefits

The season of the vibrant orange carrot is here, and this naturally sweet and crunchy delight is consumed in many forms. From salad to halwa and juice to soup, the magic of beta-carotene, vitamin A, fiber, and antioxidants found in this vegetable helps support eye health, boost immunity, and promote glowing skin. In Ayurveda, carrots are considered slightly warming and balancing for Vata and Kapha doshas, making them ideal for colder months. According to a study titled Drinking carrot juice increases total antioxidant status and decreases lipid peroxidation in adults, it has been found that carrot juice may protect the cardiovascular system by increasing total antioxidant status and by decreasing lipid peroxidation independent of any of the cardiovascular risk markers. Here we have curated a list of four common things one can add to carrot juice and boost its nutritional value naturally. Scroll down to read the details.

Lemon juice

A splash of lemon juice helps flush out toxins, support liver health, and enhance the body’s natural detox process. Lemon is rich in vitamin C and is said to enhance the juice's cleansing properties. It helps detoxify the liver, aids digestion, and balances the natural sweetness of carrots with a refreshing tang. According to a study titled Lemon Juice Formulations Modulate In Vitro Digestive Recovery of Spinach Phytochemicals, lemon is a rich source of vitamin C. It is mentioned in the study that Lemon (Citrus limon (L.) Burm) juice is rich in many important natural chemical components (flavonoids, citric acid, vitamin C and minerals, e.g. calcium and phosphorus) and its use in traditional medicine is well known to treat scurvy, high blood pressure, common cold and irregular menstruation. Lemon juice is increasingly being utilized in fruit and vegetable drinks and in fresh brewed tea products to improve organoleptic quality and nutritive value of the drink.
How to add: Simply squeeze fresh lemon in the juice, stir well and consume it immediately.

Ginger

Adding a small piece of fresh ginger brings warmth and spice to your juice. It is said to improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and boost metabolism. According to a study titled Ginger Root, ginger root is rich in micronutrients such as vitamin C, B6, magnesium, potassium, copper, manganese, fiber, and water. In addition, it is high in phytochemicals and polyphenols. Gingerols, shogaols, and parasols are the 3 major active components derived from terpenes found in ginger. The recommended daily serving size of ginger powder ranges from 170 mg to 1 g. Ginger and its metabolites appear to accumulate in the gastrointestinal tract and exert their effects by relieving pain through anti-inflammatory effects, soothing the digestive system through carminative effects, and alleviating nausea. According to meta-analysis, ginger supplementation significantly reduces alanine aminotransferase and insulin resistance in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease too.

How to add: Simply add some ginger and squeeze its juice and add it to the carrot juice. Stir well and consume it immediately.

Orange

According to a study titled Orange juice as dietary source of antioxidants for patients with hepatitis C under antiviral therapy, orange juice helps increase antioxidant capacity and decreases inflammation and cholesterol in blood serum, in addition to maintaining body mass, which protects against the harmful effects caused by the chronic hepatitis C virus. Another study, titled Effects of Citrus Fruit Juices and Their Bioactive Components on Inflammation and Immunity: A Narrative Review, consuming orange juice daily for a period of weeks has been reported to reduce markers of inflammation, including C-reactive protein, as confirmed through a recent meta-analysis. It also states that trials in humans demonstrate that orange juice reduces inflammation.
How to add: Squeeze fresh orange juice and combine it with carrot juice. Mix well and drink it immediately.
