How to extract pomegranate seeds?

Pomegranate might be a tasty fruit to eat but getting the seeds out of the shell is such a tedious task. This sweet fruit is packed with antioxidants that help in detoxifying the body. Drinking pomegranate juice daily can also help in lowering blood pressure and bad cholesterol. If you too love pomegranates but often shy away from the idea of extracting the seeds, then here are three simple ways with which removing pomegranate seeds will become a cakewalk. 2/4

Cut and Scoop method

The first method is the easiest of all and the pomegranate seeds will easily fall out with this method. Firstly, cut off the crown (the top of the pomegranate). Also remove the top white layer of the fruit and make sure the seeds are visible. Now make 6 cuts on the fruit. The cuts should be horizontal and must start from the top and go right till the bottom. Now take the fruit and take a belan. Tap the fruit gently from all sides for about a minute. Now just gently pull apart the fruit segments that were cut earlier. Hold each section over a bowl and use a spoon or your fingers to gently scoop out the seeds.

3/4

Roll and Tap method

Another method is the Roll and Tap method. Take the pomegranate fruit and roll it on a hard surface, like a kitchen slab. Make sure you exert some pressure but not much as it might crack open the fruit. Gently roll the fruit to and fro on the kitchen slab for about 1-2 minutes. This effectively loosens the seeds from the membranes inside. So once you cut off the crown and cut the fruit, the seeds will easily fall out. Collect the seeds in a bowl and scoop out the rest of the seeds.

4/4

Underwater method

This method requires you to dip the pomegranate in water, as this will also help the seeds loosen up a bit. Just cut the crown of the pomegranate and chop the fruit into 2-3 parts. Now fill a pot with water and keep it on heat. Once the water turns lukewarm, switch off the heat. Dip the fruit in it for 2-3 minutes. Now use your fingers to separate the seeds from the membranes under the water. The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the membrane will float to the surface. Remove the waste and strain the pomegranate seeds.
