Must-try chicken dishes

In India, the chicken preparation differs in every region and local cuisines. But, there are a few variations that are loved across the country. They are loved so much that they have even made ways to international restaurants and lists. As per a list issued by Taste Atlas, which features Top 17 Chicken Dish Recipes, there are two desi Indian chicken dishes that have made their way to the list, which features recipes from countries like Japan, Iran, Peru, Korea, Turkey and more. Scroll down to read the details.

2/7

Murgh Makhani, Rank 3

Popularly known as Butter Chicken, it is a dish native to Delhi and uses mild curry gravy consisting of tomatoes, butter, and cream. The chicken is marinated in spices and yogurt or cream for at least a few hours, but best if overnight, and then roasted in a clay oven (tandoor). The meat can be grilled or pan-fried instead of roasted, and the spices used in the marinade vary as each chef has his preferred combination, the website reads. The recipe also uses spices like garam masala, ginger, garlic, lemon, chili, and turmeric.

3/7

Tandoori Murgh, Rank 7

Also known as Tandoori Chicken, it is one of the best-known dishes of Indian cuisine, the website data reads. The preparation starts by removing the skin, then halving or quartering the chicken which is then marinated twice. The first marinade is made up of salt and an acid component, typically lime juice whereas the second one is yogurt-based. Garam masala, Kashmiri red chili powder, garlic, ginger, cumin, cayenne pepper, and other spices are added to the second marinade, although the acid-based marinade can also include some, most commonly red chili powder, Taste Atlas explains the dish.

4/7

Chikin, Rank 1

Also known as Korean Fried Chicken, it is a South Korean dish that uses small cuts of chicken coated in flour, corn or potato starch, and baking soda, then deep-fried twice and is then tossed in sauces such as soy garlic, and yangnyeom.

5/7

Pollo alla Marengo, Rank 17

This French dish is believed to have been created in honor of Napoleon's victory at the battle of Marengo, Italy in June 1800. According to one of the legends, after the battle, in one of the local country taverns in Marengo, Napoleon was served chicken with mushrooms and crayfish, sautéed in butter and braised in Madeira wine, the Taste Atlas website states.

Pollo a la brasa, Rank 2

It is a dish native to Peru and is also called Peruvian Roast Chicken, which consists of chicken, garlic, cumin, oregano, rosemary, Peruvian aji panca (a type of chili pepper), salt, pepper, soy sauce, vinegar, and beer.
