Desi, dramatic, and definitely not basic

When it comes to reviving tradition without making it feel outdated, Genelia Deshmukh knows exactly how to run the right notes. This time, she chose to strike an ode to the Marathi heritage, where she draped a stunning nine-yard saree, rooted in cultural identity, and made it feel fresh, modish, and undeniably romantic.

Pink nostalgia meets power dressing

Genelia wore a soft pink Nauvari saree from Ryree by Shreya Deshmukh. The drape felt regal and conscious, featuring the intricate Himroo weave, which is a historic craft known for its luxurious texture and quality. She complemented this drape with a delicate pink dupatta which came with heavy gold embroidery and looked absolutely mesmerising.

Jewellery, rooted in tradition

No traditional Marathi look remains complete without the right ornaments, so she leaned towards traditional pieces from Sanzany, Raabta by Rahul, and Jiza Jewellery Studio and picked some pieces from Kankshini. She started with the iconic Marathi nose ring, a green chandrakor bindi, layered heavy necklaces, a stack of bangles, matching jhumka earrings, and rustic golden sandals from Aprajita Toor.

Serving royal Marathi energy

Styled by Karisma Gulati, with makeup done by Jyoti and Audrey Sangma, Genelia looked like pure royalty in this clean girl aesthetic. She chose to go with a luminous glowing base with defined eyes and eyebrows and a muted lip shade to avoid stealing the show from the unique drape. She completed the look with a classic bun, adorned with fresh flowers, and was captured perfectly by Rohn Pingalay.

When heritage hits different

The ethnic market in Bollywood is constantly reinterpreted, where the steering mostly lies in the hands of Bollywood. Genelia’s look, though amidst the masses, quietly stands out for its confidence and subtle heritage charm, with no excess drama attached. She respects the strong sense of roots, and the styling exactly reminds you that heritage doesn’t need reinvention but just the right spotlight.
