Remembering Anne Frank: Books to read if you loved 'Anne Frank's Diary'

It was on June 12, 1942 when Anne Frank turned 13 and she received a diary as a gift. For the next two years Anne wrote about her life experiences, her fears and hopes in her diary, while she and her family lived in a secret annex of a dilapidated warehouse in Nazi occupied Amsterdam during World War II. Her diary entry stopped abruptly in August, 1944 when her family's secret hideout was found out and they were sent to a concentration camp in Auschwitz. Unfortunately Anne died at a young age, and her father Otto Frank was the only survivor from their family. It was Otto who later got Anne's diary published in 1947 which made Anne Frank one of the most recognized "face of the Holocaust". Meanwhile, her diary continues to inspire readers across the world even today.

Through her diary, published as 'Anne Frank's Diary', Anne documented a vital time in history and the sufferings of the Holocaust. While she lived in a grim period of the Second World War, her writings are full of hope and affirmation to life. "I don't think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains," she writes in one of the diary entries; while in the other she says, "How wonderful it is that nobody needs to wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

Remembering Anne Frank, here are some books about her for readers of all ages.

'Anne Frank Remembered' by Miep Gies, Alison Leslie Gold

It was Miep Gies and her husband who had helped the Franks hide in Amsterdam from the Nazis during World War II. For over two years they brought food and news about the outside world to the Franks. Later, it was Miep who found Anne's diary and gave it to Otto. In this book aptly titled 'Anne Frank Remembered: The Story of the Woman Who Helped to Hide the Frank Family', Miep recalls her life as a World War I refugee and later under the Nazi rule.
