Books that consistently remained in the international Bestseller charts of 2019

Another year of celebrating great books and reading scintillating stories has come to an end and yet another year awaits us with brilliant narratives and more exciting forms of writing. Preoccupied with the lingering essence of stories already read, surely one must crave for what lies ahead. However, it is never too late to look back and stack up your library with the books you must have missed from 2019.



2019 was a treat for all the bookworms around the world with a wide range of page-turner books and thrilling tales. We were blessed with suspenseful crime-thrillers and engaging murder-mysteries, amazing fictional and non-fictional reads and beautiful stories of survival and determination.



Laden with successful and top-selling books, we picked out a few that remained in the charts for the longest of time. But for those of you bibliophiles, who might have missed out on this year’s popular reads or never got around to reading something that wasn’t very widely known, here's a recap of all the international bestsellers in 2019.

'The Silent Patient' by Alex Michaelides

Alex Michaelides’ engaging and suspenseful debut novel delves into the mind of a criminal, Alicia Berenson, who shoots her husband, a fashion photographer, five times in the face and then never utters a word about it to anyone. Until a criminal psychotherapist, Theo Faber, takes charge and decides to resolve the mystery, only to find himself tangled in this mystery.

'The Institute' by Stephen King

Stephen King’s newest thriller follows a child prodigy as well as a boy with mild telekinetic abilities. One unfortunate night his parents are murdered and he is abducted by a group of intruders. He is taken to an institute, where other similarly gifted children are kept. The Institute deals with the theme of power and how it is misused by a few selected in the society.

'The Testament' by Margaret Atwood

Atwood’s sequel brings in an exceptional conclusion to her dystopian masterpiece The Handmaid’s Tale and answers all the questions that her readers have asked for decades. The book locates itself more than fifteen years after the events of the ‘The handmaid’s Tale’, where the power still remains in the hands of the Republic of Gilead, but it is revealed that the system is in a state of internal conflicts. This becomes an important moment when the lives of three woman are woven together.

'The Water Dancer' by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Ta-Nehisi Coates’ beautiful debut novel provides its readers with a blend of history and fantasy. The protagonist, Hiram Walker was born during a time of slavery, where his mother was sold away and he was robbed of all his memories of her. But amidst all his misfortunes, he was gifted with a mysterious power, which helps him teleport to distant lands and helps him in his resolve to rescue his family. Ta-Nehisi Coates weaves in an inspiring narrative of hope, perseverance and endurance through this novel.

'The Dutch House' by Ann Patchett

According to the New York Times bestsellers, Ann Patchett’s book is one of the most powerful novel to date. 'The Guardians' by John Grisham

John Grisham’s suspense novel The Guardians has to do with the investigation of into a wrongful conviction of a black man Quincy Miller, who was framed in the murder of a white lawyer 22 years back, by the “innocence lawyer,” Cullen Post.
