Shubhanshu Shukla- Pilot
Isro is set to send Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla as part of a space flight agreement with Axiom Space, a Nasa-identified service provider.
Isro has signed an agreement with Axiom Space, selecting Group Cap Prashanth Nair and Group Capt Shubhanshu Shukla for the mission.
Peggy Annette Whitson-Spacecraft commander
Peggy, an American biochemistry researcher and astronaut, is currently employed by Axiom Space. She has been selected to lead the upcoming Axiom Mission 4 as its commander.
In her role, Peggy will be responsible for overseeing the mission's objectives and ensuring the safety of her crew. With her extensive background in biochemistry research, she brings a unique perspective to the mission.
Sławosz Uznański - Mission Specialist 1
Sławosz Uznański, a Polish national, is currently employed as an engineer at the European Space Agency (ESA). He has recently been selected as a candidate for the space mission.
If Uznański successfully completes the rigorous training and is ultimately chosen for the mission, he will be the second Polish individual to venture into space. The first was "Mirosław Hermaszewski in 1978."
Tibor Kapu - Mission Specialist 2
Hungary's Tibor Kapu have been assigned the role of Mission Specialist. Training starts in August 2024, focusing on research and space outreach. This partnership with the US follows a joint statement from PM Modi's 2023 state visit, enhancing India's Human Space Program.
Prashanth Nair-Back up crew
Isro's Human Space Flight Centre has recommended that Shukla be the prime mission pilot and Group Capt Prashanth Nair a backup.
Final approval will be given by the multilateral crew operations panel. Shukla and Nair are among the four astronauts-designate selected for India's Gaganyaan mission, to send astronauts to space.
Michael López-Alegría- Back up crew
Michael López-Alegría, holding both American and Spanish citizenship, is an accomplished astronaut, test pilot, and commercial astronaut.[2] Throughout his career, he has participated in three Space Shuttle missions and one International Space Station mission, accumulating extensive experience in space exploration.
In a notable achievement, López-Alegría served as the commander of Axiom Mission 3, which successfully launched on 18 January 2024.
