The beginning of a fitness revolution

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan holds multiple talents, among which transforming fitness from a niche pursuit to a mainstream aspiration is one. He is the one who has inspired millions to take up gym training, popularizing fitness culture in India.
In the year 2000, his debut Kaho Naa Pyaar Hain brought him to the limelight, where he immediately started grabbing attention with his muscular physique and disciplined lifestyle. It encouraged the youth of India to take gym training seriously.

Setting a new standard

There was a time when Bollywood actors, especially heroes, were rarely associated with rigorous fitness routines, but Roshan broke it by introducing a new standard of physical conditioning that soon became the yardstick for aspiring actors.
His influence grew stronger when films like Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, and Dhoom 2 were released. His lean yet muscular appearance in Dhoom 2 sparked a widespread discussion on physical aesthetics associated with body building and six-pack abs among Indian youth. His popularity soared at that time as young people wanted to emulate Roshan’s physique.

Honesty about his fitness journey

He has often shared his tough struggles and hard work regarding his physique in many interviews. He never tried portraying his journey to be effortless. Over the years, the Bollywood star discussed injuries, weight fluctuations, physical setbacks, and periods of low motivation.

He always showed the real side of his transforming life. In one of his Instagram posts, in 2023, he wrote that when the diet and sleep score are on point, it feels so good. There he mentioned the gym, referring to it as something that needs aggression to be done.

A disciplined approach to training

Hritthik’s fitness now is refreshingly un-dramatic. His training goes through a structured and purposeful process. He takes care of different muscle groups on different days. No chaos in workouts, not chasing the trend anymore.
In an interview with GQ India, celebrity trainer Kris Gethin said that when Hrithik arrived on the scene of Kaho na Pyaar Hain, his V-shaped physique and muscular build showcased a new standard of fitness for Indian actors.
The dedication he has for himself in strength training, nutrition, and recovery helped the common audience a lot in changing their perceptions regarding fitness.

Fitness beyond the physique

Beyond showcasing his own physique, Roshan has always upheld his unwavering pursuit of consistency using his platform to promote exercise as a lifestyle rather than a temporary goal.
The actor has gone through drastic transformations again and again in movies like Dhoom 2, Krrish, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bang Bang and War that have become case studies in discipline and perseverance.

It has been more than two decades after his debut that Hrithik Roshan remains one of India's most influential and noticeable fitness icons. His journey shows us that fitness is not about being perfect but persistence. His physically demanding roles and his successfully playing them act as a testament to his commitment to fitness.
