The South Korean actor was found dead in a car​

As per South Korean news agency Yonhap, Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in a car in a central Seoul park. "A man in his 40s was found unconscious in a car at a park in central Seoul at 10:30 a.m., and the police later identified him as Lee. In the passenger seat was a charcoal briquette," the news agency reported.

​He was being investigated for using marijuana and other illegal drugs​


The Parasite actor was currently being investigated for using marijuana and other illegal drugs at the home of a bar hostess. The actor claimed he was tricked by the hostess into taking the drugs and that he did not know what he was taking, the media reported. He had recently submitted a request for a polygraph test.

​South Korea has stringent drug laws​


South Korean law prohibits its citizens from consuming drugs. The punishment can vary from 6 months to 14 years depending on the degree of the crime. Lee was questioned regarding this for 19 hours. As per Lee’s agency HODU&U, the actor himself had brought this matter to the police by filing a blackmail complaint against the concerned person.

​Drugs banned in South Korea​


Marijuana is illegal in South Korea in all forms, including medical purposes. This includes vape pens with CBD or THC substances. Any individual found carrying any product derived from or containing marijuana can be arrested by the authorities. It is also illegal to have or carry amphetamine drugs, benzodiazepine drugs and opiate drugs in the country.

​Lee rose to global fame due to 'Parasite' movie​


South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun became famous after 'Parasite' which received Academy Awards. In the movie, he played Park Dong-ik a wealthy man whose house was infiltrated by his servants. He is also popular for comedy-horror hit "Sleep." Lee is survived by wife and actress Jeon Hye-jin and two sons. "I sincerely apologise for causing great disappointment to many people by being involved in such an unpleasant incident," he said at the time. I feel sorry for my family, which is enduring such difficult pain at this moment. Once again, I sincerely apologise to everyone," he told media in October during the time when he was being questioned about the alleged drug use.
