Indian Peafowl

Also known as the peacock, this bird is well-known across India. It’s our national bird and is often admired for its colourful look. Himalayan Monal

The Himalayan Monal lives in the higher regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Its feathers have a mix of colours like green, blue, and purple. It’s also the state bird of Uttarakhand. You can usually spot it in cold, hilly areas with lots of trees and open land.

Malabar Trogon

Found in the forests of the Western Ghats, the Malabar Trogon has a mix of red, green, and yellow on its body. It usually stays quiet and hidden in thick forests, which makes it a bit difficult to spot. But birdwatchers often look for it because of its unique colours.

Great Indian Hornbill

This is one of the bigger birds found in India’s forests. It has a large yellow beak and black-and-white feathers. The Great Indian Hornbill lives in the forests of the Northeast and the Western Ghats. Its call can be heard from far away, and it usually stays high up in the trees.

Indian Pitta

The Indian Pitta is a small bird with many colours, including green, blue, yellow, and orange. Even though it’s very colourful, it often stays hidden in bushes and low branches. It’s found in forested areas and is active mostly during early morning or late evening.

Painted Stork

Painted Storks are mostly seen near lakes, wetlands, and rivers. They have white feathers with pink and black on their wings. These birds usually move around in groups and can be seen wading through shallow water, especially in places like Keoladeo National Park in Rajasthan.
