Tithi Das showcases her evolving artistic vision in Kolkata
Dancer and choreographer Tithi Das celebrated six years of her movement vocabulary – Mudragraphy, with a special showcase at Gyan Manch on May 24. The sixth edition of Mudragraphy, directed by Tithi, brought together Indian classical dance traditions and contemporary expression in an evening that highlighted the evolution of the form she has been nurturing over the years.
One of the highlights of the evening was Tithi’s solo Odissi recital, Kede Chanda Janalo Sahi, which captivated the audience with its expressive storytelling and nuanced abhinaya. Her performance underscored the strong classical foundation that continues to inform her choreographic work.
Several members of Kolkata’s cultural fraternity were present to support the initiative, including singers Timir Biswas and Ankita Bhattacharya, renowned Odissi exponent and Tithi’s guru Aloka Kanungo, as well as Sarbani Sen, Kaberi Sen, Kalyan Majumder and Aditi Rao, among others.
More than a dance showcase, the event served as a celebration of collaboration between artistes, mentors and audiences. As Mudragraphy completes six years, Das and her team are looking to further expand the reach of the format while continuing to create new avenues for artistic exploration and expression.
A Mudragraphy performance
Developed by her, Mudragraphy blends traditional Indian classical hastas (hand gestures) with modern storytelling techniques, creating an artistic language that resonates with contemporary audiences while remaining rooted in classical aesthetics. The Season 6 presentation reflected this vision through a series of Odissi, Mudragraphy and semi-classical performances by students of Prabhukunj, the dance institution founded by the artiste.Tithi with her students
