‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’: Five reasons to watch Arvind Swami-Amala Paul’s film

Thrice after being postponed, Arvind Swami’s ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ finally got a release date and is all set to hit the screens on May 17. The film has decent buzz among the audience, thanks to its theatrical trailer, which has clocked in more than three million views on YouTube. With the film slated to release tomorrow, we give you five reasons why you shouldn’t miss ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ in theatres.

Arvind Swami and Amala Paul’s collaboration

After making a stunning comeback in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kadal’, it was Mohan Raja’s ‘Thani Oruvan’ that shot Arvind Swami to stardom overnight. Arvind’s portrayal of the stylish villain Siddharth Abhimanyu won the hearts of the audience and soon, Arvind Swami was flooded with acting offers. Long before Arvind was finalised as the hero, director Siddique initially approached actors Rajinikanth and Ajith Kumar to play the lead role. However, both of them turned down the offer. One of the interesting facts is that ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ marks Arvind Swami’s first association with Amala Paul, who is reported to be playing the leading lady. From the pictures, it’s safe to say that the duo makes an adorable couple and we can’t wait to watch them on the screen.

Remake of Malayalam blockbuster

It’s a well-known fact that ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ is a remake of the Malayalam blockbuster film ‘Bhaskar The Rascal’, which was helmed by Siddique himself. Starring Mammootty and Nayanthara in the lead, the film opened to favourable reviews from critics and became a money spinner at the box-office. Made on small budget, ‘Bhaskar The Rascal’ completed a 100-day run at the theatres. Of the several things, the film was appreciated for its humour and the performances of lead actors -- Mammootty and Nayanthara. Considering that the film is a blockbuster in Malayalam, one hopes the Tamil version, too, lives up to its hype.

The story of ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’

‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ has an intriguing storyline. Apparently, both Arvind Swami and Amala Paul are playing the role of single parents to a boy and a girl respectively. On the other hand, the kids befriend each other at school and through them, Arvind Swami and Amala Paul meet. The kids are polar opposites just like their parents. While Arvind’s son is calm, composed and against violence, Amala’s daughter is exactly the opposite and believes in physical violence. The rest of the story is about how the two families get along and how the kids help in setting up their parents. The theatrical trailer, which was released last year, was impressive and is likely to strike a chord with the family audiences.

Strong supporting cast

One of the major highlights of ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ is its huge cast that includes some big names. The Tamil version will see Arvind Swami and Amala Paul reprising the roles originally played by Mammootty and Nayanthara, as single parents. Apart from these two, it stars baby Nainika and master Raghavan, who won over the audience after their performances in ‘Theri’ and ‘Pa Paandi’ respectively. Actors Soori and Robo Shankar will provide the comical relief, while Naasar, Riyaz Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, Nikesha Patel and Ramesh Khanna will be seen in important roles.

Positive buzz

Ahead of the release, the makers organised a special screening for the press. In fact, the film was supposed to release on May 11. However, it was subsequently pushed because of lesser screen counts. If social media responses are anything to go by, the film has been highly appreciated mainly for what it is. Projected as an out-and-out mass film, ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’ is Siddique’s fifth film in Tamil after some blockbuster outings like ‘Friends’, ‘Engal Anna’ and ‘Kaavalan’ to name a few. Will the film recreate the magic in Tamil? Only time will tell.
