​Tamil releases this week: 'Mafia', 'Godfather', 'Baaram', 'Meendum Oru Mariyathai' and two other films to compete with each other

Tamil cinema audience has been witnessing new releases every week. At least one high-budget movie gets released along with some other small scale ventures. And sometimes even the small budget movies are well appreciated by audience and continue to do well at the box office. But this week fans are going to be spoilt for choice as six Tamil films are lined up for release. 'Mafia', 'Godfather', 'Baaram', 'Meendum Oru Mariyathai', 'Kanni Madam' and 'Kutti Devathai' will be hitting the theatres and here’s a look at what are these films about.

​'Mafia'

'Mafia' features Arun Vijay, Prasanna and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the lead roles. The film is directed by young director Karthick Naren, and it marks the director's third film while his second film 'Naragasooran' has been unreleased till date. The story of 'Mafia' will be a lion versus fox battle between Arun Vijay and Prasanna, and Karthick Naren has handled it in a unique way. The film is produced by Lyca Productions, and this is a film with the highest budget this week.

​'Godfather'

After 'Sathuranga Vettai', cinematographer Nataraj Subramaniam has done several films as a hero and earned a place for himself in the industry. Now, the cinematographer-turned-actor is ready with his next film 'Godfather', which is directed by Jegan Rajshekar. Apart from Natarajan Subramaniam, the action thriller features Malayalam actor Lal, Ananya and Ashwanth in main roles.

​'Baaram'

'Baaram' became popular after winning the National Award for the Best Tamil Film at the 66th National Film Awards. The film features around 85 new faces playing important roles and is directed by Priya Krishnaswamy. 'Asuran' director Vetri Maaran has presented the film under his banner of Grassroot Films, in association with SP Cinemas.

​'Meendum Oru Mariyathai'

'Meendum Oru Mariyathai' is directed by legendary director Bharathiraja, and he is back after seven years. His last film was the 2013 film 'Annakodi'. Bharathiraja is supposed to be playing an old man who strikes a friendship with a young girl. Rasi Nakshatra is playing the leading lady while Mounika and Joe Malloori play important roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja and N R Ragunanthan have scored the music for the songs while the background score is done by Sabesh Murali. The film is produced by Bharathiraja's Manoj Creations.

​'Kanni Maadam'

'Kanni Maadam' is directed by popular actor Bose Venkat and he is making his directorial debut with the film. The story of the movie is based on some real-life incidents and the film features new faces like Sriraurbm and Gayathri in leading roles. Apart from them, Aadukalam Murugadass, Gajaraj, Valeena Princes, Vishnu Ramasamy, and SuperGood Subramani play important roles.

​'Kutti Devathai'

The story of 'Kutti Devathai' came from real incidents of honor killings at various places. The film is directed by K Alexander and it features Cholavendan, Teja Reddy and Vela Ramamoorthy in the lead roles while Gayathri, MS Bhaskar, Vasu Vikram, Sathya, Arivarasan play supporting roles. The film has music scored by Amuthabharathi and produced by P Arivarasan.
