'Kanguva' release controversy: Five films of Suriya that were postponed after announcing the release date

Directed by Siruthai Siva, 'Kanguva' is a highly anticipated film of 2024, and the film features Suriya in a lead role, showcasing his versatility as an actor. As per the latest update, 'Kanguva' has been announced to release on October 10, and the periodic drama is planned to have a grand pan-Indian release. However, Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' has been also announced to release on the same date, leading to 'Kanguva' makers puzzled. This caused a puzzle over the 'Kanguva' release, and fans are eager to see the makers reconfirm the film's October release. Here is a look at five films of Suriya that were postponed after announcing the release date.

'Massu'

Suriya teamed up with Venkat Prabhu for the first time for 'Massu'. The horror thriller was initially titled 'Mass'. But the film's title faced multiple changes, and the 2015 release was finally titled 'Massu Engira Masilamani'. The title controversy delayed the film's release. Suriya's film with Venkat Prabhu was postponed its release two weeks to release on May 29, 2015.

'Singam 3'

Suriya joined hands with director Hari for 'Singam 3' aka 'SI 3', and the third installment of the Singam series was initially planned to be released in December 2016. But the film failed to make it to theatres on the announced date, and the cop-drama was released in theatres on 9 February 2017 after multiple postponements. The delayed release affected the film's buzz, and the Suriya starrer failed to develop big.

'NGK'

Suriya joined forces with director Selvaraghavan for the political thriller 'NGK', and the expectations were high for the film ever since it began production. 'NGK' was first announced to release for 2018 Diwali, and the film was supposed to clash with Vijay's 'Sarkar' at the box office. However the delay in the post-production made the makers avoid the clash, and the film was later released in 2019 May.

'Kaappaan'

Suriya reunited with director KV Anand for the third time for 'Kaappaan', and the film was first announced to release on 30 August 2019. But Prabhas's pan-Indian drama 'Saaho' was announced to release on the same day, and it made the Suriya's film postpone its release. 'Kaappaan' was then released on 20 September 2019, and the delay affected the film's opening.

'Etharkkum Thunindhavan'

Suriya's 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' was high on expectations, and the versatile actor joined hands with director Pandiraj for the social drama. 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' was first announced to hit the big screens in February 2022, but the makers pushed the release to March considering busy releases in the month. The continuous postponement of Suriya's film disappointed films. However, the postponement helped this time as 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' opened well at the box office finding a solo release date.
