The month of September seems to be a cheerful one for the Malayalam cinema. From exciting updates to new announcements, a lot of interesting news came from M-Town this week. From Mohanlal announcing his collaboration with Shaji Kailas after 12 years to Mammootty celebrating his 70th birthday, here’s take a look at who and what made headlines in M-Town this week!

Megastar Mammootty celebrated his birthday this week. The star turned 70 on September 7 and people from across the globe poured in wishes. He was overwhelmed by the love and wishes he received on the special day. “I’m usually reluctant in celebrating my birthday in a big way. But to see those I know and more so those I don’t know personally, see me as one among their family, making this day something special for themselves, that is when I feel truly blessed. I humbly share my sincerest gratitude and return all the love I’ve received today, to each and every one of you multifold. I wish to continue to entertain all of you for as long as I can,” Mammootty said in his note, post his birthday.

On Mammootty’s birthday, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ dropped this second look. The actor is seen in a badass avatar in the poster and it added to the anticipation of the fans. “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. - Andy Warhol Happy Birthday Dear Mammookka ❤,” director Amal Neerad shared.

Mohanlal too stole headlines this week for his association with popular filmmaker Shaji Kailas. The duo are reuniting after 12 years for a movie. Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas has previously delivered blockbuster films like ‘Narasimham’, ‘Natturajavu’, ‘Baba Kalyani’ and 'Red Chillies' and their upcoming collaboration has excited the cinephiles. Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas will be backing the project.

Alphonse Puthren has announced his next. The ‘Premam’ director is joining hands with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara for an upcoming film titled ‘Gold’. The movie went on floors this week and Prithviraj Sukumaran is expected to join the sets soon. The film also marks Prithviraj’s first association with Nayanthara as well as Alphonse Puthren.

Manju Warrier celebrated her 43rd birthday on Friday (Sep 10). And on the special day, she announced her next titled ‘Ayisha’. The upcoming film is helmed by debutant director Aamir Pallickal. The film is a Malayalam-Arabic bilingual and will be entirely shot in Gulf countries. Manju Warrier will be playing the titular in the film.
