Streaming giant Netflix is all set to drop the documentary ‘Curry & Cyanide - The Jolly Joseph Case’ on December 22, which is a true account of the investigation of six tragic deaths in a family, and a woman at the center of the bone-chilling case. Directed by Christo Tomy, the documentary is based on the cyanide serial killings that took place in Koodathayi village in Kerala.

​Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha

Released in 2009, ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru 'Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’ drew inspiration from a true event of the first recorded murder case, post the formation of the first democratically elected communist government in Kerala. The film featuring Mammootty, Shweta Menon, and Mythili in the lead roles, tells the story of a newly wedded woman, who is found dead in mysterious circumstances shortly after her wedding. Directed by Ranjith, this film promises a gripping tale that will keep you glued to your screen.

Helmed by K Madhu, ‘Crime File’ is loosely based on the murder of Sister Abhaya in Kerala in 1992. Featuring Suresh Gopi, Siddique, Sangita Madhavan Nair, Vijayaraghavan, and, Rajan P. Dev, ‘Crime File’ takes the audience through the investigation of the murder that took the state by shock. The findings and the accusations made in the movie also created a great deal of controversy during its release in 1999.

​Madrasile Mon

Mohanlal, Ravikumar, and Ravindran starrer 1982 release ‘Madrasile Mon’ is inspired by the Karikkan villa murder case of 1980. The film revolved around the sensation murder case of KC George and Rachel, who were found dead in their home by their maid. The film unfolds the investigation, and the motive, of the spine-chilling and gruesome murder. Directed by J Sasikumar, the film will keep you on the edge of your seat.

​Oru CBI Diary Kurippu

Filmmaker K Madhu and scriptwriter SN Swamy cemented their name in the industry with their CBI franchise starring Mammootty. The 1988 release ‘Oru CBI Diary Kurippu’ is the first film from the franchise, and it is said to be loosely based on the Polakkulam Peethambaran case. The film was inspired by the real-life incident of a man named Polakkulam Peethambaran, who working as a receptionist, was found dead in a pool of blood on the premises of a tourist home in Ernakulam. The incident and the police officer Radhavinod Raju, who cracked the case using the famous ‘dummy’ technique were the inspiration for the movie. Mammootty’s iconic character CBI Sethurama Iyer was born from a police officer named Radhavinod.
