It was a day of high drama, much akin to last Friday, which began with a raid on the home of actress Sanjjanaa Galrani and ended with her arrest, for allegedly procuring and consuming drugs. The actress will be in police custody for five days for further interrogation, with her name now part of the CCB FIR that has
Ragini Dwivedi also as an accused, among many others.
Confirming the news to Bangalore Times,
Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, says, "Yes, we have detained Sanjjanaa for further investigation. She has been arrested on charges of procuring and consuming drugs. The investigations are on and we will be able to reveal more only after we are done thoroughly."
Sanjjanaa’s arrest, incidentally, comes many days after the actress vehemently denied any involvement in the use or distribution of drugs at high-end events. Rumour mills were rife with speculation after Rahul Thonshe, whom Sanjjanaa has called her 'rakhi brother' was arrested in the ongoing drug scandal investigation. She had subsequently released a note stating, "I have seen people drinking alcohol and partying at get-togethers, socializing in clubs and at birthday party functions, etc., but beyond that when I have nothing to do with it or no such ‘drugs’ experience it’s very irritating to get forced in media to talk about something you don’t know. I’m very saddened that our Kannada industry name is dragged into this and defamed, which is a temple for me and I am who I am because of the Kannada industry is getting defamed because of such topics. (sic)"
She followed that up with multiple comments to the media, feigning ignorance in the matter, in what appears to have been an attempt to distance herself from the entire case.
